Journalists decide in seconds whether a release is news. Many bury the story under company history, quote marketing copy and leave out an embargo or a contact who answers. This template puts the news in the headline and lead, followed by the key facts, a named quote, boilerplate and a media contact with mobile and email.
The sample is a funding announcement from Eastlake Collective, a network of community repair workshops: a £6M round, eight new sites, 60 jobs and 35% shorter repair waits, embargoed until 09:00 GMT on 12 March 2027. Rewrite the headline, dateline and facts first, then add a quote your spokesperson would actually say.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Rewrite the headline so it states the news, then replace the dateline, release date and embargo line.
Write quotes that your named spokesperson would actually say, and have them approved before you send.
Update the boilerplate to your current facts, and put a mobile number and an email address you will answer on the contact line.
Delete the guide page, then share the release with journalists or send it as a PDF.
No. Eastlake Collective, Marlowe Growth Fund, the people named and every figure are fictional sample content. Replace them with your own announcement.
Aim for 300 to 500 words with a headline of 8 to 14 words and a lead paragraph that answers who, what, when, where and why in under 45 words.
Only if journalists get the news before the public. State the date, time and time zone clearly, as the sample does, and remove the line when the news is already out.
