Overview

This free Google Docs template plans a book launch as a countdown, so product, marketing, sales and support all know what they own and when it must be ready. It covers pre-orders, the reviewer list, the event calendar, the media timing, the readiness checks and the launch-week handover. Each section names one owner and one date, which keeps the launch on track.

The sample is the launch of a fictional title for Bramblewood Creative, a fictional publisher, on 8 June 2027. Its names, dates and figures are invented. Replace the goals, dates and owners with your own, set the launch date first, and check each date with the printer and the stores before you share the plan.

Questions

When should pre-orders open?

Usually about eight weeks before launch, once the cover and price are final and the store listing is live. Opening earlier needs stock and a clear reason for buyers to order now.

Are Bramblewood Creative and the book real?

No. Bramblewood Creative, its people, the title, dates, reviewer names and sales targets are fictional sample data. Replace them with your own details before the plan is shared.

Who should own the launch date?

One named person, usually the head of marketing, who can move the date with the agreement of production and sales. Shared ownership of a date tends to mean nobody moves it when it slips.
