Most SOPs fail because the steps are written as paragraphs, nobody owns them and nobody knows when they were last reviewed. This template fixes that on one page: a control block with document ID, version, owner and review date, three phases of numbered steps, the checks and limits that prove each step worked, and the people to call when one fails.
The sample is a die change on a press at Lindenhurst Manufacturing, a fictional company: ten steps, a 20-minute target, a 45 Nm torque limit and a first-off check within 0.1 mm. Replace the control block, rewrite each step as one action by watching the task once, and swap in the limits from your own regulator or manufacturer.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Fill in the document ID, version, owner and effective date in the control block at the top.
Watch the task being done once, then rewrite each step with one action per line and replace the sample limits with your own thresholds.
Ask two people who have not done the task to follow it, fix whatever trips them up, then collect sign-offs.
Delete the Make it yours page, then share the SOP with your team or print it for the workstation.
Yes. It is a free Google Docs template. Make a copy to your own Drive, replace the sample procedure with yours, then print it or share it as a link.
One action in under 25 words, in the imperative, with a measurable check wherever something can go wrong. If a step needs a paragraph, split it into two.
No. Lindenhurst Manufacturing, its people and every figure in the sample are fictional. Replace the limits with those from your regulator or equipment manufacturer.
