A five-minute talk fails when the speaker opens with the agenda, reads dense slides and runs out of time before the point. This template gives a short talk a clear shape: a hook, a problem, one idea, a worked example and a closing ask, with about one slide per minute. Each slide carries a single claim and a number the audience can repeat.
The sample is for Havenbrook Collective, a fictional community kitchen whose rota problem fell from 22 to 9 percent no-shows. The figures, names and savings are sample data. Replace the hook, numbers and ask with your own, then rehearse once with a timer before you speak in front of an audience.
Click Make a copy in Google Slides, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Replace the hook with your story or most surprising number, then rehearse it aloud.
Count slides against minutes and cut until you have at most one slide per minute.
Replace the sample evidence with your own data, one number per slide.
Delete the guide slide, check the closing ask, then present the talk with a timer.
Yes. Copy the deck into your Drive for nothing, then rehearse on your own version before speaking.
No. Havenbrook Collective, Mina Okafor, the rota figures and the savings are fictional sample data. Replace them with your own before you speak.
Aim for about one per minute, so five to seven slides. Fewer, with one clear idea each, usually works better than a dense deck that you rush through.
