Policies fail in two ways: they bury the rules in prose, or they name no one to enforce them. This company policy template fixes both. It opens with a document-control block (ID, version, owner, review date), then sets out purpose, scope in and out, numbered policy statements, who is responsible, how breaches are ranked and reported, and when the policy will be reviewed.
The sample is a data protection and acceptable use policy for Pennyroyal Manufacturing, a fictional 240-person factory group in Yorkshire. It uses a 12-character password minimum, a 24-hour internal breach report, a 72-hour regulator report and a £50 gift limit. Replace the thresholds, owners and sites with your own, check them against current law, then circulate with a sign-off sheet.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Update the document-control block: policy owner, approver, version, effective date and next review.
Rewrite the scope to name your people, systems and sites, then check each policy statement against what actually happens.
Replace the sample thresholds (gift value, reporting hours, retention periods) and name the person who receives reports.
Delete the Make it yours page, then share the policy with a sign-off sheet.
Yes. Make a copy to your own Google Drive and edit it freely. Nothing needs installing, and the layout works for most single-topic policies.
No. The organisation, the people, the email addresses, phone numbers and every figure are fictional sample content. Replace them with your own.
No. The sample thresholds are illustrations. Check reporting hours, retention periods and gift limits against current law and take advice before you adopt it.
