A resignation letter has to do four things well: say you are leaving, name the last working day, offer a handover and end on good terms. This template sets those out in numbered sections so nothing is missed, and it leaves complaints for the exit interview where they belong.
The sample is a letter from a senior account manager at Orrindale Group with six years of service, four weeks' notice, a last day of March 29, 2027 and a handover finished within 8 working days. Replace the names, dates and handover tasks, and check the last day against your contract.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Insert today's date, your manager's name and your company, then state your resignation in one sentence.
Add your last working day and check it against the notice period in your contract before you send anything.
Replace the handover tasks with your own documents, clients and training, and write a sentence of real thanks.
Delete the Make it yours page, add a personal email if you want to, and send the letter to your manager and HR contact.
Follow your contract. Many jobs ask for one or two weeks and professional roles often ask for one to three months. The sample uses four weeks, so replace it with your own.
Not in the letter. Keep it brief and positive, and raise any concerns in your exit interview, where they can be discussed and acted on.
No. Orrindale Group, its staff, the account names and every date and figure are fictional and exist only to show what a finished resignation letter looks like.
