Overview

This free Google Slides template gives a calibration panel one deck to check rating fairness before decisions are final. It shows the spread of ratings, compares teams on the same scale, sets out the criteria, lists the cases to discuss and closes with the decisions to sign. Each slide makes one point, so the session stays on evidence rather than on memory.

The sample is for Quillon Group, a fictional organisation, with invented ratings and team figures. Replace the distribution, team comparison and cases with your own cycle's data, keep the rating definitions to one page, and record each decision with its reason before the session closes.

Useful for

  • A year-end calibration panel checking that managers rate on one scale
  • A mid-year check-in where HR wants to test the rating spread by team
  • A leadership team reviewing promotion cases against agreed criteria

What's included

  • A cover slide and a headline stats slide with the pay pool
  • A rating spread chart with insights and a source line
  • A team comparison table with counts and shares
  • Agreed points in columns, plus a quick quiz for the panel
  • A process slide on how cases are decided and recorded
  • A decisions cover, a guide slide and a closing slide

Questions

Should calibration change ratings?

It can, when the evidence shows a rating does not match the criteria. Record each change with a reason, so managers and employees can see why a rating moved.

Are Quillon Group and the people real?

No. Quillon Group, Hannah Lowe, the teams, ratings and merit figures are fictional sample data. Replace them with your own before the calibration session.

How long should a calibration session take?

Plan about ten minutes for each case, with a short opening on the distribution. A session that runs longer usually needs a clearer rating definition, not more meetings.
