Releases go wrong when a step lives in one person's memory or the rollback decision is argued during the incident. This template gives developers a checklist for the whole release: pre-deploy gate, staged rollout, post-deploy verification, a numeric rollback trigger and a sign-off record.
The sample covers release v4.12.0 at Larkspur Systems, shipped on Tuesday, March 9, 2027 with a 1%, 10%, 50%, 100% rollout, guard metrics for errors, latency and conversion, and 48 hours of hypercare. Replace the version, commands, thresholds and names with your own.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Set the release version, date, deployer and approver, then delete items that do not apply to your stack.
Replace the commands with your own deploy and rollback commands or pipeline links, and set the guard metrics from your service SLOs.
Name the hypercare owner and the number of hours, then add them to the sign-off page.
Delete the guide page, then share the checklist with the approvers and the deploying team.
State it as a number before the release. The sample rolls back if the error rate stays above 2x baseline for 5 minutes, so nobody debates it during an incident.
Most teams hold 15 to 30 minutes at each stage, such as 1%, 10% and 50%, watching error rate, p95 latency and conversion before moving to the next one.
No. Larkspur Systems, the people, commands and every figure are fictional sample data. Replace all of them with your own release details.
