A budget request that asks for last year plus a percentage gives finance nothing to test. This ten-slide deck starts from statutory duties, shows current spend and the pressures on it, then lists the savings a department offers before anyone asks for them. It ends with three funding levels and the outcome of each, so the committee can approve, trim or reject with a clear view of the consequences.
The sample is for the fictional Umberfield Group, asking £2.4M for the year, up 4.3% on last year, with £180k of savings offered and a 90% option at £2.16M. Replace the budget lines, owners and outcomes with your own cost codes and actuals, and keep one-off items separate from the recurring base.
Click Make a copy in Google Slides, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Replace the Umberfield Group name, the financial year and the total ask on the first and decision slides.
Replace the budget lines with your own cost codes, last year's actuals and this year's proposal.
Delete the guide slide, check each line against the ledger, then share the request with the finance committee.
Yes. Click Make a copy in Google Slides and the deck is saved to your own Google Drive, with no sign-up and no charge.
No. Show one-off items on their own line so the recurring base is clear, otherwise the base looks inflated and the next request is harder to defend.
No. Umberfield Group, its managers, budget lines and every figure are fictional sample data. Replace them with your own before the meeting.
