Developers decide within minutes whether an API is worth their time. This API reference template gives a product team a short, ordered briefing: what the API does, the common use cases, how it behaves, how to get access, what it costs and where to get support. It leaves out code on purpose, so product managers and partner leads can present it, while engineers follow up with the full reference for requests, responses and errors.
The sample is for Kettleby Cloud, a fictional platform with a version 2 REST API of 38 endpoints. It shows a rate limit of 300 requests a minute per key, a p95 latency of 210 ms, and three paid plans from £29 to £690 a month. Replace the base URL, the endpoints, the prices and the contacts with your own, and check each claim against your sandbox, so the quick start you share works on the first try.
Click Make a copy in Google Slides, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Replace the base URL, version prefix and auth scheme on the overview page.
Run each sample request against your sandbox and paste the real response.
Update the rate limits and plan tiers on the pricing slide with your own.
Delete the guide slide, then share the deck or present it in full screen.
Yes. Kettleby Cloud, its people, the endpoints, prices and figures in this deck are fictional sample data. Replace them with your own before you share the deck with customers.
This deck deliberately leaves out code. Point readers to your reference documentation for requests and responses, and keep this deck for the overview, access steps and plans.
Review it at each release. Update the version, rate limits and prices first, and record any deprecation with its sunset date so partners see it well before it takes effect.
