Early-stage teams rarely need a 60-page policy manual. They need one trusted place that explains why the company exists, how people work, what time off and pay look like, and where to get help. This handbook leads with mission and ways of working, keeps each policy to a page, and ends with the contacts staff actually need. It runs to eight pages.
The sample is the handbook of Oakhaven Group, a 22-person scheduling software company, with 25 days of leave, 37.5 contracted hours and share options for every employee. Replace the mission, terms and contacts with your own, check each figure against your contracts and local law, and mark which parts are contractual.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Replace the organisation name, mission, version number and review date on the cover and the first page.
Overwrite hours, leave, sick pay, notice and equity with the terms in your current contracts, and check each against local employment law.
Fill in the contacts for payroll, IT, first aid and speaking up, and delete any section that does not apply.
Delete the Make it yours page, then share the handbook with staff and record who has acknowledged it.
Keep it short enough that people read it, often under ten pages. Put the mission and ways of working first and link to fuller policies instead of copying them.
It is a template, not legal advice. State which parts are contractual and which are guidance, and ask a qualified adviser to check it against current local employment law.
No. Oakhaven Group, its people and every figure are fictional sample content. Replace all of it with your own terms and details before sharing.
