A product requirements document often runs to thirty pages, and few people read past the first one. This template fits the decision on one page: the problem and the hypothesis, the solution outline, the success metrics and the risks. Numbered, testable requirements sit beneath, each with a priority, an owner and an acceptance criterion, so designers, builders and testers all work from the same statements.
The sample is for a client document approval portal at Bramblewood Partners, with figures for monthly approvals, sign-off time and the causes of delay. Every name, figure and date is fictional. Replace the problem, owner and requirements with your own, keep must-have items to 60 percent of the list or fewer, and add a measurable acceptance criterion to every line before the review.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Write the problem in two sentences and name the business owner on the summary page.
Replace the sample figures and requirements, then give every line a must or should and an acceptance test.
Keep must-have items to 60 percent or less of the list, so trade-offs stay possible when dates slip.
Delete the guide page, then share the PRD with the design, build and test leads for review.
Yes. Bramblewood Partners, its staff, the figures and the client approval portal in this sample are fictional. Replace them with your own product details before you share the document with the team.
Most useful documents have between 30 and 120 numbered requirements, grouped by area. If the list grows past that, split the work into separate PRDs so that each one can be signed off on its own.
A testable requirement is one sentence with must or should, an owner and a measurable acceptance criterion, such as page load under 2 seconds at 500 concurrent users. Words such as fast or easy need a number before they go in.
