Lightning talks fail when the speaker reads the slides aloud or spends the minute on code nobody can read from the back of the room. This tech talk slides template gives a five-minute talk a shape the audience can follow: a problem that matters, one idea, an example with a real number, the result and three takeaways. Each slide carries one point, and code appears only as a short fragment.
The sample is for Foxhollow Cloud, a team that cut p95 latency on its job queue from 480 ms to 140 ms. Every name, number and date is fictional, and the benchmark is sample data. Replace the hook, code and chart with your own incident and measurements, record the hardware and dataset, and check the title matches the abstract you submitted.
Click Make a copy in Google Slides, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Write the talk title and a one-sentence promise on the cover, and match the abstract you submitted.
Replace the hook with the real incident, number or surprise that started your project.
Cut each code sample to the smallest fragment that makes your point, and make it larger.
Delete the guide slide, then present the talk and close on your three takeaways and link.
Yes. Foxhollow Cloud, the people named, the latency figures, the chart and the repository link are fictional. Replace them with your own measurements and note the hardware and dataset before you present.
Eight to twelve lines at 24 point or larger is the practical limit. If the code needs more, show the idea as a diagram or a before and after diff, and link to the full file for anyone who wants it.
Audiences trust a talk that admits a dead end, and they learn more from what did not work. One failed attempt, told briefly, makes the successful change easier to believe and easier to repeat.
