This Google Docs template gives a new engineer and their manager one shared plan for the first three months, from laptop set-up to owning a service. It is organised in the order people need it: key dates for days 1-30, stage gates for days 31-60, a Gantt schedule for days 61-90, a checklist of check-ins and a page of success measures. Each phase has three outcomes to judge against, so goals describe results rather than activities.
The sample follows Wrenfield Systems, a fictional software company, and shows a hire called Maren Lindqvist starting on 1 March 2027 with Priya Nandakumar as manager and Jonas Reyes as buddy. Replace those names, the dates and the goals with your own, then run the set-up steps on a clean laptop before you share it. The figures are sample data and should be checked against your own team.
Click Make a copy in Google Docs, then confirm on the Google page. The copy is saved to your own Google Drive.
Replace Wrenfield Systems, the cover names and the start date with your own.
Swap the day 1-30 dates and welcome contacts for your manager, buddy and team channel.
Write three outcomes for each phase, then set the gate dates and owners to match.
Test every set-up command on a clean laptop, then delete the guide page and share the document or present it.
No. Open the file, choose Make a copy and it lands in your own Google Drive, where you can edit every page before a new hire sees it.
Yes. The phases are normal Google Docs headings and tables, so you can add a week, merge two phases or delete the Gantt page without breaking the rest of the file.
No. Wrenfield Systems, Maren Lindqvist, Priya Nandakumar, Jonas Reyes and every figure are fictional sample data, so replace them before you use the plan.
