Overview

This technical due diligence template is a ready-made Google Slides deck for founders who present their technology in a fundraising data room. It covers the architecture, stack, team, security, scalability and roadmap across eleven slides, with each claim stated plainly enough for an investor's engineers to test.

Each slide uses sample figures for Orchardby Labs, a fictional software company, including a load test at three times normal traffic and hosting costs of $6,400 a month. Replace the systems, team and numbers with your own, and check every figure with your engineers before it goes into the data room. Keep the risks slide, since candour builds trust.

Useful for

  • Presenting to a seed investor's technical reviewer
  • Preparing the data room before a Series A round
  • Briefing a board on technology before an acquisition approach

What's included

  • Architecture detail cards with scale and failover
  • Stack slides with four choices and their trade-offs
  • Team slide with the people and the key-person risk
  • Security and scalability slides with figures

Questions

Are the company and people real?

No. Orchardby Labs, its engineers, systems, costs and load tests are fictional sample content, written to show a finished technology overview.

Can I use it for a non-software business?

Partly. The structure of architecture, team, security and roadmap suits any business with systems, but replace the stack and scale slides with your operations.

How do I avoid overstating the technology?

State what was tested and when, name the known weaknesses, and let investors' engineers review the source code, rather than describing the system as flawless.
