Overview

Break-even analysis shows the sales level at which a product covers all its costs. This template has an Inputs tab for price, variable cost and profit target, a Costs tab for fixed monthly costs, and a Volumes table that shows revenue, cost and profit at different sales levels. The Dashboard shows break-even units, break-even revenue and a chart.

It comes with sample data for a small product business. Make a copy and replace the sample numbers. The break-even figures, volume table and chart update on their own.

Questions

Is this Break-Even Analysis template free?

Yes. Download the template and use it at no cost for your own planning.

Does it work in Excel?

Yes. Download the .xlsx file and open it in Excel. The formulas and charts work the same way there.

What if my price is lower than the variable cost?

The break-even figures show 0, because each sale loses money and the business cannot break even at that price. Raise the price or lower the variable cost.
